Vocational Studies Entry Level 3 (Construction) BTEC Extended Certificate at Newcastle-under-Lyme College
The course aims to equip learners with the skills and qualifications to progress onto a Level 1 programme or to improve their chances of obtaining paid employment. This is a one year course where learners will develop skills in joinery and home improvement and how to work safely when using a variety of tools and equipment.Alongside your course you will study English and/or maths to improve your skills in these vital subjects by attending structured classes, as well as having your English and maths assessed in all of your work throughout your course. Learners will study a core of functional skills and mandatory generic units as well as vocationally specific units. Lessons are delivered to meet the needs of individual learners after a period of initial assessment and learners take part in practical sessions that relate to their chosen vocational areas.
This programme has no formal entry requirements but learners should be able to work at Entry Level 3.
The main programme is assessed via a completed portfolio of work and functional skills are assessed via end of year examination where appropriate.
Newcastle Maintenance Allowance (NMA): Anyone with a household income under £21,000 can receive £20 per week financial support to help pay for travel and meals and meet the costs of essential trips, books, stationery and equipment. The payments will be subject to full attendance on your course. A range of other financial support is available, depending on your personal circumstances.
Learners commonly progress onto a Level 1 programme within the College.
Learners will also take part in either a work placement, an industrial visit or where appropriate both.
