Applied Science (BTEC) at Norton Hill School and Midsomer Norton Sixth Form
The Applied Science course is a two year course which will allow you to study how Science is applied in many different types of professions and industries. The focus of the course is scientific usage, concentrating on how scientists and others use science in their work. You will learn how science contributes to our lifestyle and the environment in which we live.
The course that you choose to study will depend on your interests, strengths and preference for a particular style of learning as well as your future ambitions. You will need to work independently on a number of projects. The course is aimed at students who do not necessarily want to specialize in the separate Sciences at this stage.
The course is designed to allow you to spend a considerable amount of your time in the laboratory, working on the kind of practical projects that may be undertaken by employees working in science-based industries.
You will complete core units on the fundamentals of science, working in the science industry and scientific techniques. You will then have the opportunity to investigate other areas such as human physiology and biochemistry.
Minimum of 5 grade C’s at GCSE including English & Maths. In addition a minimum of C grade in GCSE Additional Science or a Merit in BTEC Science.
The BTEC in Applied Science will prepare you for a career in the science industry or industries that use scientific knowledge and skills.
