Mathematics (Further) AS Edexcel at Sandown Bay Academy
Students MAY have the opportunity to study Further Mathematics as an enrichment course. The course develops mathematical knowledge and concepts beyond the requirements of A level Mathematics. It provides additional challenge, broadens the study of mathematics and will develop a deeper understanding of mathematical reasoning and of the power of mathematics as an analytical tool. It is the natural culmination of mathematics achievement for those students who have shown a strong aptitude for mathematics. AS Further Mathematics is an additional three modules of mathematics, including at least one extra module of Pure Mathematics beyond the Pure Mathematics core of A level Mathematics. A level Further Mathematics is an additional six modules of mathematics, including at least two extra modules of Pure Mathematics beyond the Pure Mathematics core of A level Mathematics. AS Units: Students must take one additional Pure Mathematics module (FP1) and two other modules. Nine modules are studied in total.
If you are capable of a good pass in AS/A2 Mathematics, you should be able to pass an AS level in Further Mathematics.
You could take this course to complement an Advanced GCE in Mathematics or as part of the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Further Mathematics, which will support entry to higher education in areas of Mathematics, Electronics, Economics, Physics or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to Mathematics such as an Accountant, Engineer or Teacher. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the economic and engineering sectors.
