Course description

Why study Government and Politics?

  • I want to study something different and have an interest in the world around me
  • I am interested in visiting the USA and touring places such as The White House
  • I would like to meet the people who govern me
  • I am interested in studying Law or Politics at university, or want a course that develops lots of skills for work in fields such as journalism, policing etc. 

Course content

You will examine:

  • The way in which people influence politicians through elections, pressure groups and parties
  • How our government works. We will look at the UK Constitution and the role of Parliament and the Prime Minister
  • Elections, parties and pressure groups in America
  • Governing in the USA, including: Congress, the President and the US Constitution. 

Entry requirements

Stockton Sixth Form College prides itself on having options for students of different abilities, and would advise any prospective student interested in applying, whatever their predicted grades, to get in touch so that a suitable programme of study can be discussed.

The college has a flexible timetable whereby almost all combinations of subjects are possible. Students will be advised of any non-compatible subject choices, if appropriate, at enrolment.
