Performing Arts Level 3 BTEC at The Open Academy

Course description

As a BTEC Performing Arts student at OA6 you will study a range of units which may cover acting, dance and singing. You should have a wide interest in the Performing Arts, both as a participant and a spectator. You should be willing to challenge your own experiences and your pre-conceptions about Theatre.

There are Core Units over the two years covering diverse elements of performance. You will also complete units across the 3 specialist subject areas. You are assessed continually rather than by exam. The requirements for each unit are given to you as Assignment Briefs, which outline tasks to be completed and how they will be assessed.

After studying BTEC Performing Arts, you could pursue Higher Education courses in Theatre, Drama or Dance. The course lends itself to performance work, but also technical theatre careers, drama/speech therapy, media work, and arts administration. Alternatively, the skills used on this course are also transferable to all people professions such as medicine, law, teaching, youth/recreational work and social work.

Entry requirements

Students following level 3 courses will require 5 Cs or above including English and Mathematics.

Students should have a level 2 qualification in a performing arts subject. This course requires a high level of motivation, commitment, self discipline, time management and group working skills.
