BTEC Diploma in Public Services at Archbishop Holgate's School
This course will provide you with a real insight into the work carried out by the public services and the skills required to succeed in a career in this field. The course will introduce you to a range of modules that will show you how the public services operate, and deal with, various situations. The course aims to prepare you for direct entry into a range of public services or for a university course before embarking upon a chosen career.
The course is modular, which means that you will build up a series of assignments throughout the two years. Modules that you will study include Government Policies and the public services, team development, team leadership, citizenship, physical preparation for the uniformed services and Police powers and the public services.
Entry requirements for Sixth Form are 5 A*- C at GCSE, including English and Mathematics, although certain courses will have specific requirements.
You will need to be a person who is willing to actively participate in a range of activities, and is also prepared to lead a team on occasions. You will need a real interest in a career in one of the public services, and also be organised and able to meet deadlines.
The BTEC qualification is assessed by coursework. You will be expected to complete assignments during the year that may include written tasks, practical activities and presentations.
Over the duration of this course students may be required to attend visits to further their learning. If there are any cost implications student will be notified in advance and financial support may be offered to students who would have difficulty funding such visits.
There is potential for the qualification to prepare learners for progression within education or into employment in this vocational sector and it is suitable for those who have decided that they wish to study in detail or work in a particular area of work. This qualification will prepare students for further study within higher education or alternatively a career within the chosen sector. Entry into higher education will be dependent on University entry criteria and students should contact Universities directly to ensure progression routes are suited to specific course combinations.
To further your vocational experience, you will have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities organised by your tutors including Police and Fire Service visits and personal activity days with the Army, RAF, Navy and Royal Marines.
