Uniformed Public Services at Grimsby Institute

Course description

Studying on these courses is the ideal starting block for anyone wanting to go into one of the uniformed services, covering all the areas you need to succeed, giving you some great insights into what life is like in a career like the Armed Forces or the Fire Brigade.

Our Uniformed and Public Services tutors have served over 100 years' service in the Uniformed Services between them and they can give you all the advice and guidance you need to help you get a brilliant career.

Uniformed Public Services cover all the practical and theoretical related areas you need to succeed, giving you some great insights into what life is like in the Police, Fire Brigade, Navy or Commandos.

Course content

Learners will take part in fitness sessions and adventurous activities and exercises as well as studying law, government and citizenship. Criminology, war and conflict and current affairs are also studied.

Teamwork, fitness and leadership skills also form a part of the course. All learners will take part in work experience.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for our courses depend on the specific requirements of each Programme of Study and an individual's previous experience, which will all be discussed during the interview process.

The following list offers a guide as to what you might be expected to achieve to gain entry on to a particular level of a course.

Entry Level 3 Programmes

No formal entry qualifications but subject to approval from the Foundation Learning Assessment Team.
 

Level 1 Programmes

GCSEs grade E to G or equivalent, including Foundation Awards and Entry Level Certificates.
 

Level 2 Programmes

Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade D or above including Maths and English language OR Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade D or above including Maths and English language and relevant subject qualification OR Minimum of Level 1 course in chosen subject at merit or above and English language and Maths at Level 1.
 

Level 3 Programmes

Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade C or above including Maths and English language OR Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade C or above including Maths and English language and relevant subject qualification OR Minimum of Level 2 course in chosen subject at merit or above and English language and Maths at level 2.

When you’ve finished the course you’ll be ready to go out and satrt work, but some of our learners progress to University Centre Grimsby, which will give you greater knowledge to take out into the workplace and can increase your chances of earning higher wages.
