Course description

Advanced Level Physics involves a more detailed study of Wave Theory, Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Atomic Physics, Electricity and Electromagnetism. There is also the opportunity to study other topics such as Medical Physics and Particle Physics. Although the course content is important, Students following A Level Physics course would also be prepared to develop problem - solving techniques. The ability to think for themselves and develop an open-minded approach to some of the more difficult concepts such as wave Particle Duality of Matter. The A2 in Physics consists of three units (4, 5 and 6 ) in addition to units (1, 2 and 3) covered at AS Level. Unit 4 Fields and Further Mechanics Unit 5 Nuclear Physics, Thermal Physics and Medical Physics Unit 6 Investigative and Practical Skills in A2 Physics Students will carry out experimental and investigative activities in order to develop their practical skills. These activities will allow candidates to use their knowledge and understanding of Physics in planning, carrying out, analysing and evaluating their work. A2 Examination Unit 4: Written examination - Section A is 25 multiple choice questions. Section B is a written paper of 4/5 structured questions, 1 hour 45 minutes. Unit 5 : Written Examinations - Section A on Nuclear and Thermal Physics- Compulsory section 4/5 structured questions, Section B one of the options- Each paper has4/5 structured questions and is 1hour 45 minutes long.
