The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Art & Design is a 2 year specialist qualification that focusses on particular aspects of Art and Design with a vocational emphasis. The qualification can support further study at Level 3 or future employment within the Art & Design sector. The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Art & Design is broadly equivalent to 1 A Level. The BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Art & Design is completed in Year 12 and consists of 3 units and is equivalent to 1 AS qualification. The 3 units covered in Year 12 are, Unit 1: Visual Recording in Art & Design, Unit 2: Materials Techniques & Processes in Art & Design and Unit 12: Computers in Art & Design. In Year 13 students work towards achieving the Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Art & Design and cover the following 3 units. Unit 3: Ideas and Concepts in Art & Design, Unit 4: Communication in Art & Design (Final Major Project / Exhibition) and Unit 5: Contextual Influences in Art & Design. Students are assessed by producing creative and innovative art & design work based upon the achievement of specified learning outcomes. All units are internally assessed. Students are given structured and recorded feedback, focussing on the continual improvement of individual knowledge.
