Extended Project at Poole Grammar School
Students are encouraged to undertake the Extended Project as it proves that they can conduct ‘independent learning’. This is a quality that both Universities and the world of work seek. Students have a wide choice of topics to choose from and there are four distinct types of project formats, these are;
- field study
Students can choose their topic to conduct a further study of which can link their A-level subjects, or focus on an area that goes beyond the syllabus. A key part of the project is how students choose and refine their project theme. Roughly 100 hours of study - mostly independent with some staff supervision - is required to complete a successful project.
Places on AS Level courses can, subject to available places, normally be offered to applicants who meet the minimum course requirements. These are usually based on the applicant’s best 8 GCSE results, including English and Mathematics, with a minimum of 344 points, with an A* A or B grade in the subjects chosen - or a related discipline, if appropriate (in Mathematics, the minimum grade of B must be at Higher Tier).
