Painting and Decorating Diploma Level 3 at City College Plymouth

Course description

This study programme is designed for those aspiring to further develop their skills to work at an advanced level in industry. You will learn various traditional and modern techniques in paint application, specialist wall coverings and decorative finishing in order to produce high standards of work. The study programme consists of 80% practical-based activities in the College‚Äôs modern and extremely well resourced workshop facility. 

Course content

You will complete a variety of practical activities covering health and safety, information, quantities and communicating with others, building methods and construction technology, preparing surfaces, applying paint systems by brush
and roller, applying paint systems by airless spray method, hanging specialist wall coverings, access equipment, and applying specialist craft finishes.


Your individualised study programme will be made up of the following four areas:

  • the qualification you are studying
  • English and maths
  • work experience
  • other activities to develop your personal skills e.g. preparing you for employment, training or higher/further education.

Entry requirements

Four to five GCSEs at grades A*-C (including English and maths) and a level 2 diploma. 

Future opportunities

On successful completion you may progress to a HNC or foundation
degree in construction at the College, or gain employment in the industry as a supervisor, site manager or general foreman. - See more at:
