Aspects of Hispanic society

• Modern and traditional values; Cyberspace; Equal rights


Multiculturalism in Hispanic society

• Immigration


Artistic culture in the Hispanic world

• Modern day idols; Spanish regional identity; Cultural heritage or cultural landscape


Aspects of political life in the Hispanic world

• Today's youth, tomorrow's citizens ; Monarchies, republics and dictatorships; Popular movements


Literary texts and films

Students must study either one text and one film, or two texts in Spanish. Previous example have been the play ‘La casa de Bernarda Alba’ by Lorca and the film ‘Volver’  by Almodóvar.


Individual research project

Students must identify a subject or a key question which is of interest to them and present and discuss them in the speaking assessment.

A in GCSE Spanish


Paper 1: Listening, reading and writing. -  Written exam: 2 hours 30 minutes - 40% of A-level
Paper 2: Writing - Written exam: 2 hours - 30% of A-level
Paper 3: Speaking -  Oral exam: 21–23 minutes - 30% of A-level

Future opportunities

Spanish is a facilitating subject.Facilitating subjects are the subjects most commonly required or preferred by universities to get on to a range of degree courses. They can help students keep their options open when choosing a degree and many of the top universities will ask you to have at least one A-level in a facilitating subject when you apply.

Progression from this course:

Language degree (most of which include a year placement in the country of the language you are studying), Spanish alongside Business Studies, Politics, Film Studies, Linguistics, Criminology, and English Literature.
