Spanish A - AS Level at Shooters Hill Sixth Form College

Course description

If you are interested in languages, travel and communication, and you enjoy learning about other cultures and ways of life, then this modern foreign language course could be suitable for you.

This course will enable you to communicate effectively & confidently in Spanish and provides a strong foundation for you to progress to further studies in Spanish. Opportunities for the future could include working for an International Organization, International Business, professional translator, public service interpreter or language teacher.

Course content

You will continue to develop the four GCSE skills; writing, speaking, reading and listening at a higher Level which will involve expressing opinions, analysing, evaluating and interpreting.

You will also have the opportunity to learn about current social events and the culture of Spain and Latin America.

Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. It is an official language in over 20 countries, the United Nations and the European Union.

A language at AS/A Level is a valuable asset to combine with any other program of study and is a highly valued by universities.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs Grades A – C, including a Grade C in English Language and Grade B in Spanish.

Most students should normally have achieved at least the equivalent of GCSE Grade B in Spanish before taking this course. You will need to feel confident at this Level in the four language skills of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.

To continue to A Level in this subject, you will need to achieve a C at AS.

Further information

Students will have the opportunity to visit the Instituto Cervantes Spanish Cultural centre in London, watch a Spanish language film in a central London cinema, attend a revision conference in the Spring term and attend a University Master class at a London University.
