French AS/A Level at The Ripley Academy

Course description

AS – Unit 1: Youth culture and concerns; the world around us; Education and employment; Lifestyle, health and fitness.

A Level – Unit 1: Environmental issues. Unit 2: Social and political issues. Unit 3: Study a book and/or a film and/or a region of France.

Entry requirements

Students are required to have B grade in French GCSE.  Students may be considered with C grades under certain circumstances.

Assessment

First year for the AS:

Unit 1: Spoken expression and response in French. (30% of AS mark and 15% of overall A-LEVEL mark.)

Unit 2: Understanding and written response in French. (70% of AS mark, 35% of total A-LEVEL mark)

Second year for A-Level:

Unit 3: Understanding and spoken response in French. (17.5% of total A-LEVEL mark.)

Unit 4: Research, understanding and written response in French. (32.5% of total A-LEVEL mark.)

Future opportunities

With a qualification in French you could go on to Further or Higher Education, studying French by itself or combined it with another subject (French and Law or French and Politics or French and Business are common ones).It is now very much recommended for a career in business, travel and tourism or any other job with an international dimension.
