Mathematics AS/A-Level at Cranford Community College

Course description

Students study 4 units of Core mathematics and Mechanics 1 and Statistics 1.

Course content

Core mathematics applies existing skills at a higher level and also develops new mathematical concepts. Topics include algebra, calculus, graphs and trigonometry.

Mechanics 1 is the study of forces and motion. This option requires a certain amount of visualisation which will help with problem solving. Students studying Physics are advised to study this option.

Statistics 1 is the study of data and probability. It involves extensive manipulation and calculation of a large amount of data and requires a meticulous mind! This option is useful for students studying Biology, Geography or Economics.

Entry requirements

Normally B in higher tier Maths.

Future opportunities

A Level Mathematics is required to study Mathematics, Engineering, Economics and Accounting at University. It is also beneficial for other courses such as Medicine, Dentistry, Business and other Science courses.
