Performing Arts Cambridge Technical Level 2 Diploma at Brockenhurst College

Course description

This course is a fantastic opportunity for learners who are looking to develop their skills in Drama, Dance and Music.

It is a one year course that encourages learners to grow in confidence and creativity through positive and enthusiastic sessions with staff specialising in each discipline.

Throughout the year learners will partake in skills workshops for acting, script work, singing, musical theatre, business and dance. Learners will work towards two performances showcasing their skills to an invited audience.

There is the opportunity to try areas such as marketing, costume, lighting, sound and make-up as a part of these performances.

This course is practical and work related.  If you enjoy performing and are keen to develop your acting skills along with dance and singing this could be the course for you.  It is an introduction to the Performing Arts business and includes performing scripted pieces, writing reports, making video diaries and devising your own plays.  You need to be really keen to get involved and improve your skills.


Course content

You will study 2 core units:

  • Production Process
  • The Performing Arts Business

And a further 4 units from:

  • Acting
  • Dance
  • Musical Theatre
  • Performing Plays
  • Singing


Entry requirements

You will normally need to have at least 1 of the following:

  • BTEC Foundation Certificate in a related subject
  • Normally GCSE Grade D should have been achieved in 4 subjects, with at least a grade D in English, and preferably 1 in a performing arts subject
  • Related work experience
  • Other related level 1 or 2 qualifications
  • An interest in all aspects of performing arts

We shall require you to be well motivated, enthusiastic and able to work as a member of a teamOther

Optional Qualifications:
LAMDA Drama exam and Associated Board Choral Singing


All units are assessed, and graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.  You will write performance logs, reports, make video diaries and perform.

Financial information

You are asked to contribute £100 towards theatre trips, workshops etc.

Future opportunities

A BTEC Level 2 Diploma prepares you for employment and provides a good grounding to go onto a more advanced course such as BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts.

Further information

Learners who need to re-take their GCSE Maths and English are encouraged to do this alongside the course. It is a successful course at Brockenhurst with a 100% pass rate with many of the students progressing onto the Extended Diploma in Performing Arts.
