Sport & Physical Education A Level at Itchen College

Course description

If you love sport and wish to pursue a career within areas relating to sport, coaching or physiotherapy, this course is for you.

This course is for you if...

...you are keen to learn about all aspects of sport, from sports psychology to umpiring and all things in between.

Course content

Topics will vary in the first and second year.

Year 1:

  • Anatomy/physiology and sports psychology
  • Opportunities for participation in UK sport
  • Practical performance - you are assessed on your ability in one sport
  • Officiating role - you are assessed in an umpiring/referee role in one sport

Year 2:

  • Anatomy/physiology and sports psychology
  • How elite performers are developed in the UK
  • Practical performance - again you are assessed in one sport
  • Coursework - analysis of your practical performance

Entry requirements

Grades 9-4 and A*-C in English, Science and GCSE PE and two or more GCSEs at grades 9-4 and A*-C.

Additional guidance is available at interview.

Assessment

70% exam 30% practical

We also offer the opportunity of gaining coaching awards which combined with academic grades can secure your place at university or employment in a sport related career.
