Physics A level at The Ecclesbourne School

Course description

The course aims to give you the knowledge and understanding in Physics, the application of Physics, and, where appropriate, the skills needed for the use of this in new and changing situations. Physics is a human endeavour which interacts with social, philosophical, economic and social matters and throughout the course, you will hopefully sustain and develop your enjoyment of, and interest in, the subject by recognising how it impacts on present day society.

In Year 12 you will study 3 units covering the topics of Particles, Quantum Phenomena and Electricity, Mechanics and Materials and Waves and Investigative and Practical Skills in AS Physics, the latter of which is assessed during the AS course in the form of a Practical Skills Verification (PSV) and Externally Marked Practical Assessment (EMPA)

In Year 13 you will also cover three units covering the topics of Fields and Further Mechanics, Nuclear and Thermal Physics & Applied Physics and Investigative and Practical Skill in A2 Physics. The final listed unit is again assessed during the A2 course and is in the form of the aforementioned Practical Skills Verification and Externally Marked Practical Assessment.
