Law A Level at Northgate High School

Course description

AS Level consists of: This will include a study of the nature of law and the workings of the english Legal System as well as a topic from both public and private law. These will be the Law of Tort and Criminal Law.

A Level consists of: This will include a study of the nature of law and the English Legal System as well as the study of the Law of Tort, Criminal Law and Human rights Law. The course is aimed at helping to apply the law to factual scenarios, formulate legal arguments whilst critically evaluating and analysing legal issues.

Course content

A variety of teaching methods are used and students are encouraged to do independent research. The course includes trips to the Crown Court and visits by outside speakers.

Entry requirements

Subject specific entry requirements: GCSE grade 6 in English Language or Literature.

Future opportunities

Many A Level students have gone on to study Law or Criminology at university and have found the A Level course invaluable in their first few years of study. Other students have gained apprenticeships at local legal practices. The course is also relevant for those wishing to join the Police Force or Crown Prosecution Service. It can also be used with other subjects for entry to university courses.
