Children’s and Young People’s Workforce Intermediate Apprenticeship at Grimsby Institute

Course description

This Apprenticeship is aimed at all those who wish to work, or who are working at an unsupervised level in the children and young people’s workforce. It requires time to be spent in a real work environment.

This qualification is designed to help you build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people from birth to 19 years of age. It covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas.

The training methods include observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, lectures and written assignments or projects set by CACHE.

As an Apprentice, the exact nature of your job will depend on your employer. The Intermediate Level is for those working under supervision, such as Nursery Assistants, Pre-school Assistants, Care Assistants or Assistant Youth Support Workers.

Entry requirements

Most occupations require a minimum of grade C in English, Maths and ICT, although some only require a minimum of grade D.

Some occupations within the Engineering sector will require Science at a minimum of grade C.

A Vocational Assessment may have to be taken and passed for some Apprenticeships before acceptance onto the programme.


Training is on a day release basis at the Institute working with the Childcare department
where a Tutor will assess and monitor your progress.
