Geography at St Birinus School

Course description


  • Unit 1 Physical and Human Geography.
  • Unit 2 Geographical Skills.


  • Unit 3 Contemporary geographical issues.
  • Unit 4 Geographical Issue Investigation.

    At AS students study rivers, floods and management, population change, cold environments and health issues. Unit 2 is a skills response paper based on residential fieldwork.

    At A2 level students study Plate Tectonics and associated hazards; Weather and Climate and associated hazards; Development and globalisation; Contemporary conflicts and challenges - all are assessed through examination. Unit 4 enables students to use their skills of analysis, synthesis andevaluation with material pre-released prior to the exam.

  • Entry requirements

    If you achieve at least 5 C grades or above or the equivalent youcould consider Advanced Level courses.

    However, for the majority of Level 3 subjects B grades at GCSEare required. Specific grade requrements for subjects are available from staff and will be discussed at interview .
