Music Technology - Level 3 Diploma at Middlesbrough College

Course description

This vocational course will provide learners with the opportunities to gain skills and information about the technical aspects of the music industry. Learning to work as technicians and engineers within live and studio environments. This course allows learners to gain both hands on experience in practical scenarios as well as develop an in-depth theoretical knowledge on the technical aspects and areas of the music industry.

Course content

The range of courses we teach will include modules such as; Acoustics for Musicians Audio Engineering Principles Composing Music Concert Production and Staging DJ Performance Techniques Music Events Management Listening Skills for Music Technologists Marketing and Promotion in the Music Industry Music and Sound for the Moving Image Music Production Techniques Music Technology in Performance Music Theory and Harmony Live Sound Techniques Planning and Delivering a Music Product Sequencing Systems and Techniques Sound Creation and Manipulation The Sound and Music Industry Special Subject Investigation

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs ‘C’ or above (to include English and/or Maths) or the equivalent L2 Qualification. GCSE re-sits in English and Maths will be mandatory to any learner that has a ‘D’ in either. Functional Skills will be mandatory to anyone who has achieved below a ‘D’ in either Maths or English. "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."


Assessment methods used within the courses will vary from written submissions, PowerPoint presentations, practical assessments and verbal discussions.

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for University we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance. Music Technology students can progress to University following successful completion of their course. Employment may be found through recording studios, production companies, self-employment and many more areas within the music industry.
