Brickwork Diploma Level 1, 2 and 3 at Mid Cheshire College

Course description

The course is for anyone with a lively and enquiring mind, an interest in brickwork craft skills within construction, and a willingness to explore new ideas. It will appeal to students who:
• want the opportunity to carry out practical work covering both craft and technician skills
• enjoy studying a subject that is relevant to their own lives and experiences
• enjoy finding out their own answers – not just being taught
• want to keep their career options open, the course does not force you to make an early choice
• wish to build up a qualification by studying separate units

Course content

This course includes a Study Programme to provide learners with a coherent and enriching curriculum which will provide them with the academic, social and employability skills to progress to further or higher education or employment.

The content of the study programme is designed to broaden the learner experience beyond the main qualification of study.

The key theme of Study Programmes at Level 1 will be preparation for the world of work and the development of personal, social and employability skills.

The key theme of Study Programmes at Level 2 will be the development of occupational skills in a selected vocational area and the development of personal, social and employability skills with a view to raising aspirations.

As well as your core qualification you will study GCSE or Functional Skills English and/or maths plus English and maths development as part of the core qualification.

Learners will also undertake personal progress planning and pastoral education. Plus additional personal development activity which may include work experience and projects.

Entry requirements

Foundation Level - 2 GCSEs at Grade E - G or an Entry Level qualification.
Intermediate Level - Successful completion of Foundation Level.
Level 3 - successful completion of level 2.


You will learn through a variety of activities but the emphasis will be on the practical application of skills and knowledge.
Assessment is based on assignments with specific practical and job knowledge tests where necessary.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this course you will be able to seek employment in the building trade. Whilst working you will also be able to go on to do the Advanced Apprenticeship in Brickwork.
