BTEC Sport First Award at Queen Elizabeth School

Course description

If you enjoy PE and would love to learn more about sport then this is the course for you.  BTEC Sport will allow you to study Body in Sport, Preparation for Sport and Practical Sport units.  BTEC Sport will give you the necessary tools to analyse and improve upon your own performance, learn about the structure and function of the bodies systems and the knowledge of how to prepare for sport, and maintain a healthy lifestyle. BTEC Sport is mostly coursework based with one online and externally assessed task.

 

Course content

Pupils will extend and develop the theoretical knowledge that they have acquired in years 7,8 and 9 through:

Studying in depth the bodies systems including the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory and energy systems.

Learning about how sports performers prepare for sport and will study performance factors such as diet, lifestyle factors, training programs, fitness testing and psychological factors.

Entry requirements

Pupils are expected to enjoy PE and sport however are not required to participate in competitive sport.

 

Assessment

You will be assessed as a performer in either a team or individual sport, and will be assessed in your ability to observe and improve performance.

 

 

Future opportunities

Pupils who complete the course will be able to demonstrate to any prospective employer or higher educational institute that they have developed valuable personal skills. These include: leadership, teamwork, independent learning, working to and meeting deadlines and analysis of self and others in order to achieve an improvement in performance. This course also provides an excellent preparation for any pupil considering taking BTEC Sport or PE in the sixth-form.
