Horticulture Level 2 Diploma at Bicton College

Course description

This is a practical programme designed to help you develop gardening skills and give you the underpinning experience for a wide range of careers in horticulture, landscaping, garden maintenance and the garden centre industry.

Course content

  • Maintenance of plants
  • Constructing landscape features and surfaces
  • Crop production outdoors
  • Turf maintenance
  • Work experience including 2 weeks in industry
  • Soil science
  • Practical horticulture skills
  • Create a garden plot, judged at the College Country Fair

Functional Skills
You will also work towards nationally recognised Functional Skills qualifications (English, Maths and ICT).

Entry requirements

It is essential that your Initial Assessment results show that you are working at Level 1. You will also need to have achieved 4 GCSEs at grades A–D, including English Language, Maths and Science or equivalent.

Future opportunities

Completion of this programme may enable progress to an Apprenticeship, the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Horticulture or other programmes in gardening. Successful completion will also open up employment opportunities in organisations such as local authorities, landscaping and garden maintenance businesses, garden centres, private gardens or self-employment.
