Law A Level at Halesowen College

Course description

Law is relevant to everyday life. The law governs our conduct; some behaviour amounts to a crime whereas some actions amount to civil wrongs. Through studying Law you are able to appreciate the differences between criminal and civil law and gain many skills which will help you with other subjects.

Entry requirements

  • At least 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C across a range of subject areas, including English Language

You will need to retake GCSE Maths as part of your programme if you do not have a grade C. You may be advised to retake GCSE Science, depending on your chosen career.

Assessment

The course is assessed by written exams.

We have a variety of visiting speakers which have included Lord Hodgkinson from the House of Lords, a district judge and lay magistrates. Our students have enjoyed visiting Birmingham Crown Court to see what they have learnt in the classroom in practice. We encourage all students to take part in additional activities such as performing a mock trial.
