Computer Science A Level at Northgate High School
AS Level consists of 2 units: 1. Problem Solving, Programming, Data Representation and Practical Exercise 2. Computer Architecture, Computer Languages, Hardware & Software and Internet A2 Level consists of 2 units: 1. Programming Concepts, Problem Solving, Algorithms, Databases and Networks 2. A computing practical problem 3. A computer science project
Classes are taught a mix of practical and theory lessons. A variety of computer programs are used to help students develop their knowledge of the fundamental principles of computing, focusing on programming through a number of tasks and a problem solving scenario using pre-released material from the exam board. The course will go on to build up knowledge about computational thinking, communication and networking, what can be computed, programming and problem solving.
Subject specific entry requirements: GCSE grade 6 in Maths, or GCSE grade C in Computer Science.
Computer Science or Engineering at degree level. Employment in business and finance.
