Construction/Civil Engineering Level 3 Diploma at New College Durham

Course description

The BTEC Diploma course is designed as a part-time, two year course, which will enable students to study on a day-release mode of attendance towards their Diploma qualification. This qualification will benefit people entering the technician function of the construction or civil engineering industry from either a craft background or from no previous construction experience.

Entry requirements

To be discussed at an interview with the course leader.  However is is expected you will have 4 GCSE's at Grade A* to C in Mathematics, English Literature and Science.


Throughout the duration of the course you will undertake two types of assessment. Formative assessment will consist of work set during the course, normally two assignments or phase tests per unit.  These will be internally set and marked by your course tutors. Summative assessments are in the form of written end assessments for each unit, again these are internally set and marked by your course tutor.

Future opportunities

Progression from BTEC L3 Diploma in Construction and Civil Engineering would normally be onto Higher National Certificate/Higher National Diploma. Both of these courses are currently available at New College Durham and can be attended on a day release basis.
