IB Biology at Thamesview School

Course description

The IBCP is a unique programme addressing the needs of students engaged in career-related education. IBCP students study two IB Diploma Programme (DP) courses, a core
consisting of four components and a BTEC Diploma subject.

Course content

The core will explore: 
1. Cell biology
2. Molecular biology
3. Genetics
4. Ecology
5. Evolution and biodiversity
6. Human physiology

Optional units can include:
A. Neurobiology and behaviour
B. Biotechnology and bioinformatics
C. Ecology and conservation
D. Human physiology

Entry requirements

Minimum of 6 GCSEs at Level 4 or above (A*-C equivalent), including English Lit or Lang at grade 4 and Maths at Level 4.

Assessment

Assessment is by a mixture of written final papers and internal assessment. 

Future opportunities

This exciting qualification gives students an excellent opportunity to move into a number of different pathways.

The course can lead to University places with recognised UCAS points attached to each element of the programme. It could also lead to higher level apprenticeships and directly into a job role.
