Course description

A-level French helps students develop confident, effective communication skills in French and a thorough understanding of the culture of countries and communities where French is spoken.

Course content

What will I study during the AS course & how will it be assessed?

The four topics covered at AS are:

Media - television, advertising, communication technology

Popular culture - cinema, music, fashion/trends

Healthy living/lifestyle - sport and exercise, health and wellbeing, holidays

Family/relationships - relationships within family, friendships. marriage/partnerships

The listening, reading and writing paper is worth 70% of the overall mark at AS level and lasts 2 hoursThe speaking test is worth 30% of the AS mark, and lasts 25 minutes (including 20 minutes preparation.

What will I study during the A2 course & how will it be assessed?

For A2, candidates must study two cultural topics. This can be reading a novel, a play or a collection of poems in french, or researching a french historic event. They also cover the remaining three topics which are:

The environment - pollution, energy, protecting the planetThe multicultural society - immigration, intergration, racism

Contemporary social issues - wealth and poverty, law and order, impact of scientific and technological progress

The listening, reading and writing paper is worth 35% of A level, and lasts 2 hours and 30 minutes

The speaking test is worth 15% of the A level, and lasts 35 minutes (including 20 minutes preparation)

5 A* - C GCSE Passes
