Course description

AS - Course & Module Description

Performing (20%) - There are a wide choice of options within performing covering Solo, Ensemble, Multi-track recording and sequencing.

A recording of your performances will be internally marked and externally moderated. The recordings can be made at any time during the course.

Composing (15%) - A choice of free composition, creative arrangement or harmony exercises. You will have 20 hours (controlled conditions) to complete your work before it is recorded and sent to the external examiner.

Influences on Music (15%) Section A - Listening, Section B – Beethoven Symphony no.1, Section C - British Pop Music from 1960.

A written exam in the summer that is externally marked.

A2 - Course & Module Description

Performing (15%) - Students put together a recital lasting between 10 and 15 minutes. Recordings of your performances can be made at any time during the course and will be externally assessed.

Composing (15%) - A choice of free composition, creative arrangement or harmony exercises. You will have 20 hours (controlled conditions) to complete your work before it is recorded and sent to the external examiner.

Influences on Music (20%) Section A - Listening, Section B – Shostakovich Symphony no.5, Section C - Four decades of Jazz and Blues 1910 to 1950. A written exam in the summer that is externally marked.
