German A Level at Northgate High School

Course description

The course focuses on language skills and the acquisition of vocabulary, structures and grammar. Topics covered include: Youth Culture; The Digital World; Family; Multiculturalism; Art; Cultural Life in Berlin; Literary Texts; Films; Political Life in the German-speaking World. Students will be assessed on Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing.

Course content

The purpose-built Northgate Language Centre provides excellent language learning facilities with access to a full range of resources including the Internet, language-specific software and audio visual equipment. Lessons are conducted for the most part in German. Study is supported and enriched through a joint trip with History to Berlin in Year 12.

Entry requirements

Subject specific entry requirements: GCSE grade B in German

Future opportunities

Degree in German or International/European Studies. With other A/AS subjects for entry to other degree courses, careers in the business world, civil service, diplomatic Service, education, tourism, interpreting and translating.
