Business BTEC level 3 Diploma at Edgbarrow School

Course description

The National Diploma in Business is a qualification designed to provide specialist work-related qualifications.  The qualification will give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to prepare them for employment.  The Diploma is assessed across 8 units of work, 6 mandatory units and 2 optional units.  Assessment will occur through assignments and external assessment.  The content is similar to the A Level, with an increasing level of challenge due to both internal and external assessment pieces.  There will be visits to companies to help learners with the opportunity to relate their work to real businesses. 

Course content

Learning will take place in the classroom and will be based on local and national companies. The evidence required for the assignments will consist of written tasks, role plays, presentations, graphical displays and financial analysis as appropriate to the unit and assessment piece.

The Diploma in Business level 3 is equivalent to two A levels and will be completed over 2 years.  Over the 2 year course students will study six mandatory units:

  • exploring business,
  • developing a marketing campaingn,
  • personal and business finance,
  • managing an event,
  • international business 
  • principles of management.  

There will be a further 2 units of study to complete which will be decided.

Entry requirements

Level 2 VCERT in Business at Merit level or above, or GCSE Business Studies at grade C or above.

Future opportunities

Many students go onto Business related courses, either at university or through employment in the workplace.
