History - AS Level at RR6 Wimbledon
Why study History? Students who study history will develop the ability to interpret a range of historical sources, access information to make informed judgements, argue and debate controversial issues and write formal essays supported by relevant historical evidence. What topics will I study? • AS Unit 1: A world divided: communism and democracy in the 20th century • AS Unit 2: British political history in the 19th century • A2 Unit 3: The United States: challenged and transformed • A2 Unit 4: The making of modern China c1900-2000 How will I be assessed? • Units 1 – 3 will be assessed by examination, Unit 4 will be assessed by coursework. An example/illustration of the type of work involved: You will: be involved in debates and discussions that will often be informed by the independent completion of background reading; work both independently and collaboratively in order to undertake historical enquiries.
GCSE History grade B or higher.
Many students choose to continue their studies at university. History is a well respected academic subject which teaches a variety of skills that are suitable for further study or work including: advertising, broadcasting, journalism, law, marketing, the police, public relations and teaching.
