Creative and Digital Media Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 at PETROC

Course description

This course is for people who are employed on an apprenticeship scheme. Apprenticeships are advertised on the Apprenticeship Vacancy Matching Service website. They may also be advertised locally. Businesses and applicants: see Further Information below for more details. This apprenticeship can start at any time of the year.

The course has a dedicated computing room for apprentices and all college facilities are available. Apprentices work within their own exclusive group and maintain a professional working environment in line with their employer contract. Each apprentice is given an account on the college system which is accessible through the Petroc website so that all course material and resources can be accessed at any time whether on or off the Petroc campus.

Course content

The Advanced Creative and Digital Media Apprenticeship includes a Technical Certificate taken during college day-release which is one day per week during term time and runs over one year. It also includes a Diploma which is a work-based qualification. The Diploma is focused on the skills learned in the work place. The content of this qualification is selected by the employer so that it is relevant to the skills used in the company. This runs over a two year period.

The Advanced Apprenticeship in Creative and Digital Media covers the following subjects:

  • Graphic Design
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Website Design
  • Radio
  • Film/Video - Photography

Entry requirements

The qualifications required vary and are decided by employers. They will be listed on the vacancy details. A requirement of the apprenticeship is that all apprentices will have a grade C equivalent in English, Maths and ICT by the end of the course. If an employed apprentice does not have that level of qualification in any or all of those subjects, they will take Level 2 Functional Skills during the apprenticeship. This is a requirement of the qualification and not optional.

Assessment Methods used are:

Technical Certificate - formal assignments with a pass/fail grading.
Diploma - examples of work based activities - observations of practice in the workplace.

Future opportunities

Because of the wide range of subjects covered in the Advanced Creative and Digital Media Apprenticeship, progression will depend on the subject area an apprentice works in and what further qualifications are available in the education system. In most cases an apprenticeship leads to a permanent employment but for those wishing to continue their education, guidance will be provided. Previous apprentices have used their apprenticeship qualification to successfully progress onto Higher Education courses.
