Course description

This Level 2 Public Services (Uniformed or Non-Uniformed) course is an introduction to the world of Public Services. The qualification consists of 4 mandatory or core units and 3 optional units. The units will introduce you to the different sectors within the public services and the type of work they do.

Course content

During this one year full-time study programme, students will study a wide range of subjects related to the Public Services sector and will be provided with the fundamental skills that are required for working in this disciplined environment. Students will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills both in the classroom and outdoors.

You will learn about:

Public service skills
Employment and land navigation 
Career planning
Fitness and life style
Expedition skills
Maths and English*

Entry requirements

You will need a GCSE profile of at least 4 Ds, including English and show an enthusiasm for working with people.

Assessment

BTECs are not exam-based qualifications, a number of different methods of assessment are used. Students may be assessed individually or through group work assignments. There are outdoor activities and residentials that you will need to attend to be successful on the course.

Future opportunities

You could use this qualification as a stepping stone to a Level 3 programme providing you attain at least a Merit and a Level 2 English qualification or you could move onto other related programmes within college.
