General Studies A Level at Northgate High School

Course description

AS Level consists of 4 units:

1. Challenges for Society- studying the scientific, technological and moral issues facing our world.

2. The Individual in Society- what influences our behaviour and where values and opinions come from.

3. Change and Progress- how art, science and technology influence our society.

4. Beliefs, Values and Responsibilities – how societies develop behaviourally and morally.

Course content

A student-centred approach is adopted through exercises designed to assist learning and improve study skills. General Studies has links with most subjects and encourages the student to develop independent thinking. The subject is available for Year 13 students with a commitment of 2 lessons per week.

Entry requirements

Subject specific entry requirements: This is available to Year 13 students who wish to take the A Level during their second year of A Level study.

Future opportunities

The subject can assist students with applications for degree courses and will provide an enhancement to C.V.s to improve employment prospects.
