Level 3 Sport BTEC 90 Credit Diploma at Calderdale College
This is the first year of a two year programme. This course is suitable for learners who are interested in a career in the sports, health and fitness industry. The course is designed to give you the opportunity to develop a range of skills and knowledge to prepare you for employment or Higher Education.

You will benefit from high quality teaching and learning delivered by experienced industry and education professionals. In addition you will have the opportunity to study in the new state of the art facilities that include Sports Science Laboratory, County Standard Sports Hall, County Standard 4th Generation All-Weather Pitch, Fitness Suite and interactive Classrooms.
Classes will take the form of lectures, workshops, practical sports sessions, debates and tutorials. You will be assessed using a variety of methods such as written assignments, presentations, podcasts, research projects, video analysis and practical observations. Continual assessment takes place throughout this course and the the importance of time management is greatly emphasised.
Completion of the following units in the first year will enable you to achieve the 90 Credit Diploma (equivalent to 1.5 A Levels):
- Principles of Anatomy & Physiology
- The Physiology of Fitness
- Assessing Risk in Sport
- Fitness Training & Programming
- Sports Coaching
- Sports Development
- Fitness Testing for Sport & Exercise
- Practical Team Sports
- Sports Injuries
- Sports Nutrition
This course is suitable for those with at least 5 GCSE’s at grades A*- C, including English, Maths and Science. It would also be beneficial to have a relevant level 2 qualification in Sport e.g. GCSE Physical Education or BTEC Level 2 Sport at grade Merit. Candidates will require a satisfactory reference from their school or current tutor.

In most cases students aged 18 and under who wish to enrol on a full time further education course will have their fees waived. Students who are aged 19 and over and who wish to enrol on a full time course should contact our Student Services Team on 01422-399367 for more information.
If successful you may progress onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport to degree subjects at university such as Sports Therapy, Sport and Exercise Science, Physiotherapy, Physical Education and Support Studies. Possible careers include: Sports Psychologist, Health and Fitness Advisors, Sports Development Co-ordinators and Sport Coaches.
This course also gives you the opportunity to be a part of one of the colleges Development Centre Teams – Men’s Football, Women’s Football, Netball and Rugby
