# Further Mathematics A Level at Enfield Grammar School

## Course description

For someone who enjoys mathematics, it provides a challenge and a chance to explore new and/or more sophisticated mathematical concepts.

If you are planning to take a degree such as Engineering, Sciences, Computing, Finance/Economics, etc., or perhaps Mathematics itself, you will benefit enormously from taking Further Mathematics.

Further Mathematics introduces new topics such as matrices and complex numbers that are vital in many STEM degrees. Students who have studied Further Mathematics find the transition to such degrees far more straightforward.

## Assessment

The department will follow The Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Advanced GCE in Further Mathematics, which consists of four externally examined papers. Students will be completing the following papers at the end of their final year in May/June (2020). All four papers
are: written examinati on, 1 hour 30 mins, 25% of the qualification, and

worth 75 marks. Calculators can be used in all 4 examinations.

Proof, Complex numbers, Matrices, Further algebra and functions, Further calculus,

Further vectors

Paper 2: Further Pure Mathematics 2

Proof, Complex numbers, Matrices, Further algebra and functions, Further calculus,

Paper 3:

Further Mathematics

Option 1

Students take one of the following four options:

3A: Further Pure Mathematics3

3B: Further Statistics 1

3C: Further Mechanics 1

3D: Decision Mathematics 1

Paper 4:

Further Mathematics Option 2

Students take one of the following four options:

4A: Further Pure Mathematics 4, 4B: Further Statistics 1, 4C: Further Statistics 2, 4D: Further Mechanics 1, 4E: Further Mechanics 2, 4F: Decision Mathematics 1, 4G: Decision Mathematics 2.
