Modern Languages: French, German and Spanish at The Vale Academy

Course description

WHAT WILL I LEARN ON THIS COURSE?
AS topics: Media, Healthy Living/Lifestyle, Popular Culture, Family/Relationships
A2 topics: Environment, The Multicultural Society, Contemporary social issues, a cultural topic of your choice (can be based on an interest in literature, history, geography or art)

You will continue to develop your language skills so that you can communicate with native speakers, both orally and in writing, at a high level. This will involve extending your understanding of grammar and increasing your knowledge of vocabulary to enable you to discuss current affairs and issues affecting young people.

WHAT KIND OF PERSON STUDIES THIS COURSE?
In addition to being an obvious choice for those students who are keen and able linguists, an AS or A Level in French, German or Spanish is an excellent companion subject for those taking Sciences and Humanities because it is a much sought after skill in the world of work. British companies are notoriously short of speakers of foreign languages and are actively seeking employees with qualifications not only directly related to their business, but who can offer additional skills. It is also possible to study two languages if you have done so to GCSE.

Entry requirements

Preferably 5 GCSE's grade A-C

The minimum requirement is a Grade C at GCSE, although we prefer higher grades as proof of linguistic ability.
