Music at Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School
There are three main areas involved, Performing, Composing and Musical Understanding. Students can perform as soloists or as part of ensemble. They will be guide to create recitals which highlight their instrumental skill. Any instruments or styles are appropriate. As a guide, maximum marks are available for Grade 5 equivalent pieces at AS and grade 6 at A2.
Composing at AS involves studying a range of styles before selecting one of four set briefs to create a 3 minute composition. At A2 level there is a choice between two set briefs, two composition techniques composing in a set style or one from each area. In Musical Understanding students study set works from Baroque to Rock.
There is a listening and written examination to test their understanding of the music. At A2 they are tested on unfamiliar music also.
* GCSE Grade C
* Grade Five instrumental/vocal or equivalent ability
*An enjoyment of making and listening to music.
