General Studies at The Pingle School

Course description

What will I learn on this course?

This course considers topical issues which cover a wide range of current affairs around the areas of conflict, power, space and change.

How will I be assessed?

Units 1 and 2 are assessed in year 12 by two 1½ hour examinations. Unit 3 by one 2 hour examination. Successful students will gain an AS qualification. In year 13, unit 4 will be assessed by one 2 hour examination resulting in a full A level qualification.

Entry requirements

You do not need any specific prior knowledge in order to study this subject. Several areas covered in the course are developments of work at GCSE but others are new. You will need to be prepared to integrate your knowledge from a range of subjects in order to understand how they relate to each other and how they contribute to the understanding of the issues being studied. You will also need to have an interest in historical and contemporary issues and in thinking logically and constructively about significant problems.
