GCSE English at Calderdale College

Course description

English is arguably the most important GCSE subject, being a necessary requirement for most Further and Higher Education courses, as well as a wide range of jobs.

Course content

The course is taught by highly qualified, experienced staff who ensure that the work is as varied and enjoyable as the examination board's specification allows. If you attend well, complete your assignments and respond to feedback, you stand an excellent chance of gaining

You will be expected to complete three units which compose of a mixture of internally controlled assessments, similar to invigilated examinations and an externally assessed examination, as well as speaking and listening activities.


Entry requirements

For 16-18 school leavers the course will only be offered as a re-sit alongside a full-time programme (where appropriate) Prior attainment of a grade D GCSE English qualification is required.

19+ students must have either prior attainment of a grade D GCSE English or an Adult Literacy Level 2 qualification achieved within the last three years.

For all learners there will be stringent screening requirements which will take place at enrolment. This usually involves completing an on-screen literacy task and completing a handwriting activity.
