Music at Stanground Academy

Course description

This course is suitable for anyone who has the desire to explore the cultural magnet that is musical appraisal, composition or performance. It works alongside other creative subjects as a stepping stone to degree level study, or to hone your skills as a musician whatever style of music you choose to specialise in.

Course content

This course builds upon your knowledge of generic performing styles, as well as looking deep into how to perform songs from a diverse range of styles. This is contrasted with the development of performing skills related to contemporary classical music. There will be regular performance opportunities throughout the two years.

Entry requirements

5 + A* to B grades at GCSE including grade 5 or above in English.  GCSE expressive arts desirable.  Performing experience desirable.  Desire to perform in a range of live settings essential.

Assessment

Coursework portfolio for Components 1 and 2 and a written external assessment for Component 3.

Future opportunities

A career as a musical performer or composer, or a degree in a related subject. You may also use the qualification to reach into other aspects of the music industry, such as marketing, sound engineering, events management, or sessions musician. Beyond this you could look into working as a performer in other related disciplines.
