Sports Science BTEC Level 3 90-credit Diploma at Carshalton College
A BTEC 90 Credit diploma is a practical, work-related course.
You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as learning about the employment area you have chosen, you develop the skills you need to start a career.
Suitable for school leavers wanting a career within the sports industry or to progress onto Higher Education.
The units you will study include:
- Anatomy for Sport & Exercise
- Sport & Exercise Physiology
- Sport & Exercise Psychology
- Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise
- Current Issues in Sport
- Research Project for Sport & Exercise Sciences
- Fitness Testing for Sport & Exercise Sciences
- Fitness Training & Programming
Throughout the course you can also gain the following qualifications:
- Level 2 YMCA Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym-Based)
- Level 2 English/Maths Functional Skills
- GCSE English or Maths
Four or more GCSEs at grades A-C (Science and English essential, PE desirable) or you will have successfully completed a Level 2 programme to Merit grade, and Level 1 or Level 2 Functional Skills in English. You may also be asked to demonstrate your commitment and skills in an interview.
A positive reference is also required by school, an employer or tutor (if progressing or from another college), with attendance and punctuality.
Students are required to complete a portfolio (file) containing evidence of :
- Practical sport assessment
- Group exercises
- Practical work.
Tuition, exam and registration fees not applicable to students aged 16 - 18 years
You will have the opportunity to experience visits to different sports facilities.You may be required to purchase a travel card for additional visits that may be arranged during the year.
To enrol on this course you will be required to buy a uniform which will cost £40
BTEC Diplomas are valued by employers and in higher education (colleges and universities).
Students go into careers such as Sports Coaching, Sports Development, Gym Instructor.
