City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Nail Services at Wakefield Adult and Community Education Services

Course description

Level 3 Nail Services aims for learners to complete practical assessments in gel, acrylic, and fibreglass/silk and nail art designs.  To become a qualified nail technician in all of the above.


To provide learners with the practical skills, knowledge and understanding to carry out specialised nail services treatments.

You will be taught by a variety of classroom activities such as practical demonstrations, hand-outs, group work, tutorials and study packs.

To achieve the required standard in practical sessions and underpinning knowledge.

To submit a portfolio of evidence.

Course content

Content includes:

  • Monitor procedures to safely control work operations
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities 
  • Enhance and maintain nails using UV gel
  • Enhance and maintain nails using liquid and powder
  • Enhance and maintain nails using wraps
  • Plan and create nail art designs

This provides 48 credits

Entry requirements

The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Nail Services is suitable for people who have taken a related Level 3 or Level 2 qualification, and/or have been working in the industry and are looking to accredit their skills and knowledge.

You will need English at level 1 to successfully complete the course work and you will be supported to achieve that if necessary.


Learners will be expected to complete written work at home and will need to practice all treatments in-between sessions. 

As part of the awarding body’s quality assurance processes you may be required to attend on a different day or centre than your normal lesson.  This would happen a maximum of twice per year when the external verifier visits and you will be given approximately 2 weeks’ notice.

Additional costs: Kits are necessary for this course. Kits can be purchased through Adult Ed.  All learners must provide their own acrylic and gel brushes for use in class and at home.

Candidates will need a Beauty Therapy Uniform and plain black shoes. Information will be given to candidates at induction during the first session.ernatively, this course can be paid for in full by cash, direct debit or credit card.

All candidates will need Lever arch folder, coloured dividers, plastic wallets, pen, and pencil, lined and plain paper.



Future opportunities

The first week of the course is an introduction which will assess your skills, knowledge and commitment to the course. On completion a review will be undertaken with you and the course tutor to agree the most suitable progression route.

This qualification provides progression opportunities for those with intentions of progressing into management or onto a higher level qualification.
