Diploma for the Early Years Workforce Level 3 at Stockton Riverside College

Course description

We believe there’s nothing more important than taking responsibility for a child’s well- being. Whether working as a teacher, nursery nurse or in the care industry it's vital you can offer a service that's caring, supportive, fun and stimulating. Our courses will show you how to develop all of these skills and apply them at work.

Course content

You will develop the skills needed to work with babies and young children through a combination of theory and practical sessions. Covering subjects including development, safeguarding, health and safety and organising activities, you will learn how children develop and pick up effective techniques for interacting with young children. You will also get the chance to apply what you have learnt on a work placement. The qualification will be delivered through a range of both taught and practical sessions, which enabes learners to obtain the skills required to work with young children.

This qualification incorporates a mandatory placement to gain practical experience of working with young children. Alongside this qualification learners will attend GCSE/functional skills in Maths and English to support their further development in these areas (as appropriate).

Entry requirements

You will need the Certificate in an Introduction to Early Years Education & Care Level 2, plus Maths and English at Level 2 or three GCSE’s grades A*- C, plus a satisfactory DBS check.

Assessment

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. This could include direct observation within the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments, work products and professional discussion.

Future opportunities

After this course you could choose to go on to a foundation degree in a relevant subject. Alternatively you could start an apprenticeship or find employment in a day nursery or a school.
