Course description

Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) is a new qualification designed for students who have achieved a grade C or above at GCSE. The course is conceptually new but should appeal to all higher education establishments and employers. The course grounds students in the application of mathematics to real world situations.

It helps to develop students' mathematical skills and thinking and supports courses such as A Level Psychology, Sciences and Geography as well as technical and vocational qualifications.

Course content

The content of the course can be tailored to the areas of interest of each student. The students sits two exam papers. Paper 1 is compulsory and includes study of data analysis, personal finance and critical path analysis. Paper 2 can be chosen from one of the following;

Paper 2A: Statistical Techniques, Paper 2B: Critical Path and Risk Analysis or Paper 2C: Graphical Techniques.

5 GCSE's A* - C

At least a C in Mathematics GCSE

Assessment

Two papers of duration 1 hour 30 minutes during the summer sitting.
