Land Based Mechanisation - Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma (Edexcel) at HARTPURY COLLEGE

Course description

This one year course offers an opportunity to those students with less practical experience or lower entry grades. You have the opportunity to gain experience in our workshop facilities or with our range of modern tractors and equipment. There will be opportunities through the academic year for you to carry out practical tasks on the college farm and estate. If you have an interest in arable farming then the combination of crop and machinery lectures will prepare you for future employment or progression within Hartpury on to the Diploma in Farm Mechanisation.

Course content

Some of the subjects you will study include estate skills, managing agricultural environments, understanding principles of land-based machinery, agricultural livestock production, agricultural crop production and plant and soil science. This course is a mix of theory and practical study. The practical resources of Home Farm will be utilised during the teaching and where possible real commercial activities will be undertaken.

Entry requirements

Two GCSEs at grade C or above, one of which must be English Language together with either Mathematics or Science.

Financial information

Students under 19 on 31 August 2015 are free (full time courses only). Examination fees for main qualifications are also free. Students aged 19 to 23 may need to pay tuition fees. We may be able to waive your fees if you are unemployed and receiving Jobseekers Allowance, studying your first full level 2 qualification or level 3 qualification. Students aged 24 and over. You may need to pay for your course. Educational visits charge: An annual £65 fee is payable for all students and covers the cost of outside visits, special speakers and a contribution to the cost of administration
