Course description

For the Principal Learning of the Higher Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment you will cover the following topics :- Design the Built Environment : 1. The Design Process 2. Materials and Structures 3. Applying Design Principles. Create the Built Environment: 4 Structures 5 Using Tools. Value and Use the Built Environment : 6 Communities 7 Facilities Management. You will also undertake a project. The course aims to: -allow you to develop a range of skills that will be useful both in the workplace and for future learning -provide you with essential construction and built environment knowledege that will help you to enter the workplace be practical and motivating, allowing you to apply your knowledge and skills in relevant, meaningful employer-led activities -promote your development of personal learning and thinking skills This course is also available through the EDEC consortium.

Entry requirements

Pre 16s; for the Higher Diploma students should have reached at least level 5 in English, Maths and Science at the end of year 9 Post 16s: 2-3 GCSEs at A*- E (Including English and Maths); BTEC Introductory Diploma at Merit/ Distinction ; NVQ 1 or Foundation Diploma in a related subject wil be considered

Future opportunities

A Higher Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment could lead you to progress to A Levels, the Advanced Diploma or vocationally-related or vocational level 2/3 courses.
